Hi Jeff. How would you like to introduce yourself?
Hello, I’m Jeff Zarp, a psychologist and postdoctoral researcher with a deep love for art. My life mantra, "Stay curious and keep learning," guides my journey, whether I'm delving into the complexities of the human mind or exploring new horizons in painting.
What makes you smile?
What makes me smile? Moments of inspiration and challenge that lead to fresh insights. My paintings are not just creations but invitations—a room for thought and introspection, where viewers can pause, reflect, and engage in a conversation with themselves.
How would do discribe your work in art?
I am drawn to abstract expressionism, a style that liberates both the artist and the viewer.
The beauty of abstract art lies in its open-endedness; each piece is a mirror reflecting the viewer's thoughts and emotions.
What excites you?
What excites me most is hearing how others perceive my work—often in ways I never anticipated during the creative process. This dialogue between artist, artwork, and audience is a continuous source of fascination and joy for me.
Are you an artist?
I don’t typically label myself as an artist.
Painting is a personal joy, a practice that I embraced more fully during my PhD studies in 2018. Before then, my artistic inclinations were expressed through drawing in my youth. Since returning to art, I have experimented with oil on canvas, acrylics on paper, and even pencil and charcoal.
The process, not the final product, captivates me the most. It's a dance between initial ideas and unexpected turns, resulting in works that often surprise even me.
While I have yet to formally enter the broader art world, I find immense satisfaction in my private artistic explorations and the insights they bring.
