Annette Sjølund is a Danish artist, who´s practice follows more than one track.
She performs drawing, watercolor, graphics, engravings and sculpture.
As an artist, she has traditional academic education, having attended several Artschools in Copenhagen in her career.
Her interest for art history, as well as for world history, can easily been tracked in her works. Her studies in art history at The University of Copenhagen have been of major importance and reference to her works.
She explains : ”My works spring from a continuous dialouge with myself and the surrounding world. Whether it is a book I have read, a film I have seen, or maybe the work of other artists, these will stay in my mind and leave marks or tracks with which I can work, within an artistic context ”
Annette has often an ironic distance and a morbid undertone to her artworks. She calls it the ”Vanitas” project and these works have a refernce to the Rennaissance Period. The Vanitas paintings are symbolic of the inevitability of death, the transience, the vanity of earthly achievements and pleasures.
