CARE GUIDE FOR NEW TATTOOS

Treat your new tattoo with respect,

a sprinkle of household wit – and it will

for sure be your prettiest companion for the rest of your life!

Taking good care of your new tattoo is important to avoid inflammation, scarring and infections - all things we don't like on a tattoo. So - here's a step by step guide, made so you can feel safe in the process of the tattoo healing...

When you come home after the session, it's might be time to take a look at the new tattoo.

It's usually covered the with plastic film. Sometimes i'll recommend to keep the film on for 3-4 hours, while other times I might suggest to leaving it on for up to 24 hours. Each tattoo is a unique piece so they all need different treatment - basically, it depends on the tattoo size and complexity...

When it's time to remove the dressing

Wash your hands with warm water and soap, then gently remove the film. Rinse the tattoo carefully with semi-warm soapy water, to wash away any excess ink and blood. Let the tattoo air dry or gently pat it dry with a couple of fresh sheets of paper-towels.

The first day after the session it's time to keep the skin (the tattoo) healthy and safe.

During the first week you should still rinse the fresh tattoo in the same way as the first day - and do this 2-3 times a day. Keep the skin (tattoo) healthy and safe from external irritations.

For the skin to to heal, use fat ointments to prevent dryness - but don't use too much. If you soak the tattoo, the scraps will stay

Avoid tight clothing (such as bra straps, waistband edges, and pants that rub against the skin) on the area around the tattoo. The less irritation your tattoo experiences, the better the healing process.

A fresh tattoo often get scrabs - it's a wound, right...

The scabs should ideally fall off on their own, so remember to be gentle when you clean it. you know - no scratching!

This said, it's also important that you think of what you wear, as tight clothes and accessories, such as bag-straps, waistband edges etc, also scratches on the skin – and this will also affect the healing process.

Simply – the healing process for a tattoo is individual and depends on your skin and the complexion of the tattoo - and especially how you treat it.

THE BASICS TO REMEMBER

First of all - it typically takes four to five weeks for a tattoo to heal into the stage where you don't have to clean it and keep it moist as much as before! You should plan on caring for your tattoo during this period!

For how long - you say?

but to ease it out, here’s some basic guidelines.

  1. The healing process!

When the skin begins to heal use fat ointments to prevent dryness. Avoid tight clothing on a fresh tattoo, such as bra straps, waistband edges, and pants that rub against the skin.

The less irritation your tattoo experiences, the better the healing process.

  1. For the first two weeks after getting a tattoo, you should avoid swimming, sunlight, and movements that stretch the skin. After that, always use sunscreen on your tattoo, as sunlight can fade the color....
