CARE GUIDE

FOR FRESH TATTOOS

Treat your new tattoo with respect, a sprinkle of household wit –and it will for sure be your prettiest companion for the rest of your life!

Taking good care of your new tattoo is important to avoid inflammation, scarring and infections – all things we don't like on a tattoo. So, here's a step by step guide, made so you can feel safe in the process of the tattoo healing up...

1/ WHEN YOU COME HOME.

– after the session, it time to plan your approach of taking a look on the fresh tattoo.

The tattoo is usually covered the with plastic dressing. Sometimes i'll recommend to keep the dressing on for 3-4 hours, while other times I might suggest to leaving it on for up to 24 hours.

Each tattoo is a unique piece, so they all need different treatment – basically, it depends on the tattoo size and complexity...

2/ WHEN IT'S TIME TO REMOVE THE DRESSING.

wash your hands with warm water and soap, then gently remove the film. Rinse the tattoo carefully with semi-warm soapy water, to wash away any excess ink and blood. Let the tattoo air dry or gently pat it dry with a couple of fresh sheets of paper-towels.

If the tattoo is still bleeding or exudate, cover it up with a fresh sheet of cling-film.

3/ THE FIRST DAY AFTER THE SESSION.

it's time to keep the skin (the tattoo) healthy and safe.

After showering, let the tattoo almost dry fully, then add on the moissering cream of your choosing.

Remember, do NOT soak it – a thin layer of perfume free ointment or salve is more than enough.

4/ DURING THE FIRST WEEK.

you should still rinse the fresh tattoo in the same way as the first day - and do this 2-3 times a day. Keep the skin (tattoo) healthy and safe from external irritations.

For the skin to to heal, use high on fat ointments to prevent dryness - but don't use too much. If you soak the tattoo, the scraps will stay.

5/ THE FIRST TWO to THREE WEEKS.

you should avoid swimming, direct sunlight and overall movements that stretch the skin.

The tattoo is still fragile, though the scraps is off. As long as you see the skin as "shiny" it is still healing and will be damaged by outer over-stimulation.

Rule of thumb:  Wait at least one month with heavy exercise, sunbathing and swimming (Showers is all okay... We don't want you to stink ^_^).

6/ IS ALL FINE AND DANDY?

After 4-5 weeks, the tattoo is healed and we can take a look at the final result.

Do we need to do a touch up?

I'm always happy to see the tattoo fully healed, so please send me a photo or visit me at the studio.

This way we can also deside if it needs a bit more ink, or if shades should be darker etc.

I take great pride in the craftsmanship, and only wish good tattoos "out there" – so please, don't hold back contacting me for a second view.

TIPS, NIPS 'n' TRICKS

A new tattoo gets scrabs!

– just remember that it's a wound, right... The scabs should fall off on their own, so remember to be gentle when you clean it. you know

no scratching!

Avoid tight clothing

such as bra straps, bag-straps, waistband edges... and all clothes that rub against the skin around the tattooed area.

The less irritation your tattoo experiences, the better the healing process – and less scarring...

Simply – the healing process for a tattoo is individual and depends on your skin and the complexion of the tattoo - and especially how you treat it.

Avoid the sun

– so, it's not time to get tanned!

Keep the fresh tattoo covered while healing, or the colours will for sure fade and look dull over time.

After the tattoo is fully healed, I'll recommend to always use sunscreen on your tattoo. Sunlight can fade the colours no matter how old it is.
