Monday's Built on Curiosity – Not a Plan

28. jul. 2026

//, Events, News

so another year...

is just an excuse to celebrate

as Art Monday & Blækbar reset the calendar, and invite you to the weekend birthday bash at Monday Studio, August 14th + 15th... a weekend packed with artsy stuff, funky tunes, black tattoos, cold drinks and plenty of good, old-fashioned fun.

because...

some people stop by Monday Studio to pick up a bit of art, a book, or a t-shirt. Others end up sticking around for a couple of hours over a cup of coffee or a cold beer – and suddenly the conversation has landed somewhere completely different than they expected.

That's always been our favorite way for it to go.

So, on August 14th + 15th, we're marking another year gone by – 11 years and counting – and celebrating the way we always do: by opening the doors and seeing who shows up.

An idea, no business plan

None of this ever started with a spreadsheet or a business plan. It started with a desire to create a place where ideas could live a little longer than usual – where new artists could get their first exhibition, and books and zines could be published without asking anyone's permission first.

Since 2017, the black rainbow has hung as a symbol of it all. Not because it explains anything, but because it reminds us that plenty of different directions can spring from the same idea.

The house today

Today, that idea has grown into several branches under one roof. Art Monday is still the original concept – the platform behind our small press publications, magazines, and merchandise. Monday Studio has been the physical home since 2019, where it's all exhibited, sold, and discussed over a cup of coffee.

BLÆKBAR is the tattoo artists of the house – more hands, same core idea: art and creative process carried out directly on skin.

And if you turn right through the door, into the corner we've playfully named Center for Uautoriseret Æstetik (Center for Unauthorized Aesthetics) – Monday Studio's own answer to a proper institution, minus the enrollment fees – you'll find Baggaardsbaroner. A well-established, yet still independent publisher that believes books should be experienced and felt, not just read.

so yea,

big surprice

– once again we'll join forces with Baggaardsbaroner and BLÆKBAR to celebrate our birthdays together – Art Monday turns 11, Baggaardsbaroner turns 12, and BLÆKBAR turns 2 – 25 years total :)

"As Baggaardsbaroner started 12 years ago, just one year before I did the first event as Novam Artem (now Art Monday), and we've kind of walked hand in hand in the journey of creating small press goods throughout life together, I think this is another good reason to celebrate with a full-on weekend party." // Jakob Hindhede, founder of Art Monday

As Onkel Hawaii put it himself: we're here to push boundaries and force old farts to suck more farts.

The experience of art on the walls

This August, we're filling the walls with works by Cast Ello, Rose Mai Pedersen, Bob Petra, Onkel Hawaii, Black Rook, and Vigga Storm – together with a number of friends of the house.

Cast Ello draws and illustrates with a raw, black-and-white line, where comic-strip energy meets humor and a touch of melancholy.

Rose Mai Pedersen works more intuitively and poetically, in pieces that leave room for the viewer's own stories.

Bob Petra moves between drawing, collage, and handpoke tattooing, telling stories about identity and the small, offbeat moments of everyday life.

And Vigga Storm creates handmade knitwear and textiles in small, one-of-a-kind series – upcycled, sculptural, and approached in a way where clothing becomes part of the wearer's identity rather than just another trend.

What's happening - and when?

Friday 14th

doors open 16:00–21:00 for a proper party: music, long conversations, and a fridge stocked with cold beers and wine – aka your creative fuel – plus a few good deals for anyone who drops by. Free entry, as always.

Saturday 15th

from 12:00–16:00, we slow down, and you can experience the exhibition, the shop, and the house in daylight at Matthæusgade 21, 1666 Copenhagen V.

Whether it's your first time stopping by or you've followed us since the beginning doesn't really matter.

Every community starts with someone opening a door.

This time, it's us.

Welcome.
