LOOKING BACK 10 YEARS - BOB PETRA REFLECTS ON THE CRASY IDEA OF STARTING WITHOUT PREMISSION
The story is a long one, BUT just to indulge my own sense of occasion – can you believe it’s been 10 years since we first welcomed you under the name Novam Artem?

ART MONDAY TURNS 10 – AND THIS WE WANT TO CELEBRATE...
Back then, ten years ago, we threw ourselves headfirst into the world of pop-up exhibitions, such as the 4 days fastival at Dome of Visions. I remember it was set in only 3-4 months - it was such a joy to create something this big without any boarders - and to work with so many great artists with the same dream as mine.
We turned it into a hub of underground film marathons and wild international collaborations – showcasing art, in its manifold, in courtyards, cinemas, theaters and city streets in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Kolding. We called it all something like Cinematheque, The Urban Expos, IMAGINARIA and such - and the idea was always the same: to create space for what’s overlooked, underground and undiscovered.
In 2017, I changed our name to Art Monday, and since then we’ve released a dozen or so magazines and over 40 zines in all imaginable (and unimaginable) formats. It’s our little publishing engine that refuses to burn out – a creative fuel that keeps us producing the weird, the independent and the sublime.
In 2019, we opened Monday Studio – our first physical, self-owned exhibition space – just six months before the world went into lockdown. But we made it through. Or rather: we fought our way through – and created the vibrant studio and meeting space that’s become a base for artists and visitors drawn to the honest, the experimental and the hands-on.
Since then, we’ve hosted over 125 exhibitions, events and art formats, and in 2024 we also opened our own tattoo collective, where ink and art come together in a personal and professional expression of creativity.
And most important - I wanna share the biggest hugs and all love to two of women who made all this possible - I couldn't have done this without you... You were the ones who pushed, slaped me harder and hug me when it was needed... A personal applause to Carmen Ghecca, who took part in the first two years - and Sofie Birkum who had the same dream to make what's now Monday Studio - a place where common people can come in and explore all 'the candy' in their own tempo.
Thank you both for kickstarting this wonderful journey. Thank you both for being my boss bitches.... :)
They are the ones who helped me build Art Monday and Monday Studio - with a shared belief in the raw, the imperfect, and the strange - the sketches as truth, the art made during night shifts and breakdowns as the core in this business...
